HME Wireless' hospital pagers help to ease stress of young patients and families at Sheffield Childrens Hospital in England
A hospital visit can be a stressful experience for just about anyone, let alone children and their families. But at the Sheffield Childrens Hospital in Sheffield, England, those worries are being eased, thanks to the addition of a new QuietCall IQ hospital paging system from HME Wireless.
In England, the lightweight hospital pagers are referred to as bleepers. At Sheffield, the parents of children with appointments are issued a bleeper by reception staff. With a pager (or bleeper) in hand, families are free to go for a walk in the park, or to browse at nearby shops until they are ready to be seen. The pager will buzz five minutes before the doctor is ready for the child, in order to give the family time to get back.
The pagers are a great addition to our outpatient department and were delighted to be able to give parents the chance to free up some of their time, said John Reid, director of nursing and clinical operations at Sheffield Childrens Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
With the superior range of HME Wireless' hospital pagers, parents and children can roam up to a mile away a helpful comfort for extended wait times, when clinics are running late or doctors are called to an emergency.
It's important to us that families get a good balance between excellent medical care and providing a good overall experience at our hospital, added Reid. Sometimes all mums and dads want is a short walk without the fear of missing their slot.
Sheffield is one of the first hospitals in Britain to begin using the state-of-the-art patient paging systems. Sheffield Childrens Hospital Charity funded the investment, and more pagers will be introduced in other departments later this year, as well as to parents whose children are undergoing surgery.
We're very grateful to the charity for funding these extra innovative pieces of equipment which really make a big difference to families, said Reid.
David Vernon-Edwards, director of the Children's Hospital Charity, said: These bleepers are an excellent idea. They really make a difference for families, as it can be difficult entertaining a child in a small space if there is a wait. This way they can go to the cafe or into Weston Park and feel their time is being better spent than just sitting on a corridor.
